A spectacular Contemporary Art Biennale coming soon!
The 15th Biennale, entitled “Where water comes together with other water”, will take place in Lyon from September 18, 2019 to January 5, 2020.
With nearly 250,000 and 6,000 professionals expected, the Contemporary Art Biennale is amongst the world’s best known art expos. The president of Palais de Tokyo, Jean de Loisy, and the exhibit curators will guide the artistic aspects of the event, with a special approach:
“All of the works presented will be made in the Lyon region. We want to take advantage of the local industrial know-how, one of the most advanced in all of Europe,” explained Jean de Loisy.
The Contemporary Art Biennale will take over a new venue, going for the first time to the 29,000 square meters of the former Fagor factory. This exceptional space will make it possible to produce works calling on the trades and techniques that flourish in the region. Some 50 works will be created for the Biennale, i.e. nearly double the production of previous shows. This will also be the opportunity to connect local industrialists with the guest artists: 12 works will be produced by companies in the Greater Lyon area.
The idea behind the 15th edition of the Lyon Contemporary Art Biennale is that of an ecosystem, at the interface of natural, economic and cosmogonic landscapes. It bears witness to the shifting relationships between humans and other living beings, the Mineral Kingdom, technological artefacts and the histories that unite them.
