Lyon around the world
Since early autumn, Lyon has been going international to attract investors and companies, key tourism players and influencers. From Australia to Russia and Japan, Lyon has been promoting its advantages, nonstop. Let's take a look back at an especially impactful few months.
1ST STOP SYDNEY: LYON GOES DOWN UNDER
In September 2016, ONLYLYON went to Australia to promote Lyon. Meetings were organized with investors and managers of export companies, to present them with the advantages of setting up for business in Lyon. In terms of tourism, the delegation participated in workshops in order to meet with travel agents, and organized seminars and individual meetings with the 20 largest tour operators of the Sydney and Melbourne areas, in partnership with Emirates. The key moment: the dinner prepared by Chef Guy Lassausaie in the presence of the French Ambassador to Australia. The perfect opportunity to highlight the gastronomy of Lyon and to showcase the future City of Gastronomy of Hôtel-Dieu, in front of 120 reporters, tour operators, investors and opinion leaders.

On the programme: a series of meetings with key players in the economic, high-tech, academic, tourism and culinary fields in the cities of Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama, Kyoto and Sendai. The first meetings in Osaka, with Knowledge Capital and Daikin, led to major partnership agreements being signed for the metropolis, in particular with Tuba at Part Dieu, as well as the City of Gastronomy, which was also the focus of a press conference in Osaka. This was in the presence of the President of Tsuji, a Japanese culinary school that has been in the Lyon region for more than 30 years. In the evening, His Excellency the Ambassador of France to Japan Thierry Dana greeted the delegation from Lyon in the presence of French and Japanese players involved in the bilateral relationship. In the city of Sendai, the official and academic delegations from Lyon participated in the inauguration of the joint research laboratory Elyt-MaX, the first international laboratory created at Tohoku University, featuring French and Japanese teams studying materials and systems subjected to extreme conditions. Next, the delegation met with the President of the University of Tokyo, which renewed its partnership agreements with several academic institutions in Lyon (INSA, ENS Lyon and Claude Bernard University).
