Lyon, France, June 1st, 2018 - The visit to Boston is also a great opportunity for Lyon to promote its strengths to life sciences companies that might want to enter the French market. A team from ADERLY, the Economic Development Agency for the Lyon Area, will be present to meet with potential investors.

Life sciences: a sector of excellence in Lyon, one of the World’s biotech leaders

Thanks to its dynamic life sciences infrastructure, Lyon’s business ecosystem is highly attractive to global leaders, such as Sanofi Pasteur, Boehringer Ingelheim, Santé Animale (formerly Merial) and bioMérieux, as well as SMEs and innovative startups such as Adocia, Edelris, Valneva and Erytech Pharma.

Among the 27 young biotech companies coming from Lyon to the BIO Convention are the promising ENYO PHARMA, THERANEXUS  and NOVADISCOVERY. They’ll be at the Lyonbiopôle stand, the largest representing France.

Lyon, which is a sister city to Boston, is the world’s No. 1 center for vaccine production, and boasts 800 biotechnology and health companies that employ about 100,000 workers. Over 1,400 clinical trials are carried out each year at the Hospices Civils de Lyon, and the city offers an innovative ecosystem that has historically been based on expertise in immunotherapy, infectious diseases, oncology and neuroscience. Life sciences are a key sector in Lyon’s economy, and play a crucial role in the city’s global attractiveness.

Big Booster: June 4-8, Phase 1 of the International Booster Camps

In 2016, Lyon and Boston joined forces to cooperate on environmental, economic and social issues. This partnership is embodied by the Big Booster program that encourages the creation of companies and supports startups by connecting them with key actors in their sector in Lyon and Boston, and in doing so, accelerating international growth.

Having completed the coaching and training phases, the last Big Booster evaluation launched 25 startups, each ready to enter international markets. They benefitted from a program that enabled them to study productive local practices and to build a network that will foster their international development.

"90% of startups that took part in BoosterHub benefited from the wealth and density of Lyon’s ecosystem,” said Karine Dognin-Sauze, deputy vice-president in charge of innovation, smart cities, digital development and smart mobility. “We are going to Boston to support selected startups and connect them with Boston's innovation ecosystem by mobilizing our network of on-site partners, a network that we have been developing for the past four years."

In Boston, participants will benefit from a specific program organized by MassChallenge: training with mentors, networking events, conferences, workshops with experts, and etc. They will also attend a workshop at the prestigious MIT Media Lab.
