Saint-Etienne Biennial Design Festival
The 10th edition of the Biennal Design Festival will take place from 9 March to 9 April 2017.
As in previous years, the event is hosted by the Cité du Design in Saint-Etienne. The 2017 edition is devoted to Working progress: changes in the workplace.
The Biennial Design Festival will reflect two aspects:
-the emergence of digital labour, the digital aspect of working life.
-new forms of work organisation, illustrated by new workspaces such as FabLabs and co-working spaces.
Through these prisms, the festival will provide visions from the design world concerning these socio-economic transformations. The tenth edition of the festival remains firmly rooted in its core objective, which is the democratisation of design.
The last edition attracted 210,000 people. This festival plays an important role in promoting Métropole de Saint-Etienne on an international scale. The city was entered to UNESCO’s creative cities network in 2010. Indeed, the festival will welcome delegations from the other 16 cities of design from around the world.
The city of Saint Etienne has truly placed design at the heart of its development with one of its pillars being the Ecole supérieure d’Art et Design, created in 1803 and the Cité du Design, created in 2006. Metropole de Saint-Etienne joined Aderly in 2015, highlighting its desire and drive to continue its economic growth alongside the Lyon area as well as its international reach.
